Eight millimeters of a metal most people have never worn. This tantalum gentleman's band runs a brushed flat face between two polished stepped edges, so the ring reads quiet from above and modern from the side.
Tantalum is naturally dark gray - closer to gunmetal than to steel - and that color is the metal itself, not a plating or a coating, so there is nothing to wear through at the knuckle. The brushed face holds a soft even grain while the raised steps on either side are left mirror-bright, and the contrast between the two is most of what you see on a hand. It is a dense metal, heavier to wear than titanium and close to tungsten.
WHY TANTALUM? It is one of the few ring metals that is both rare and wearable: biocompatible and hypoallergenic, highly corrosion-resistant, and unlike the hardest ceramics and carbides it is a true metal that bends rather than shatters under a hard blow.
